Much like a bank passbook, it keeps track of the thread they have used, the garments they have woven, and the money they have earned. It’s all part of an effort by Xuta to preserve and promote the unorganised sector of traditional weaving.
Pabitra’s leadership in the initiative also allowed for tremendous increase in building financial interdependence, digital visibility, perseverance of art & culture, sustainable solution making, and women’s empowerment.
It's beautiful and a quaint place to see the various craft and craft traditions of north-east India. They have a good assorted collection of baskets, fabrics, books, furnishing, preserves and souvenirs. The items are priced reasonably for the effort put in for making the intricate work. They kept the store open past 7PM for me to shop. I would have liked that the staff knew a little bit more about the craft practices and people to enrich and make the experience educational. Kudos to the teams for building a much needed space.
A gem in Guwahati! Showcasing the authentic indigenous crafts of the North East. Each piece has a story to tell- and the staff tells it so nicely- while taking excellent care of you. They also make jams, preserves and spices native to the region. A must-visit on your trip to Guwahati!
